In June of 2008, Blake and I needed to attend a wedding in Racine, WI. We searched online for many places and came across a bed and breakfast called Hughes House. It was located right on the shores of Lake Michigan. We only stayed one night, as that was all that was available at the time. The house had about five to six guest rooms. A few had their own private bathrooms and some had ones across the hall. We stayed in the Yacht Room. It had a huge walk-in closet with built-ins and a window, a fireplace, a king-size bed, a tv with dvd player and a bathroom to die for. It had two pedestal sinks, a large, jetted soaking tub, and a shower with multiple jets.
In the morning before we had to attend the wedding, breakfast was served in the dining room downstairs at a large table we shared with the other guests. This allowed everyone to get to know one another. Breakfast was displayed buffet style in the middle of the table with many of Wisconsin’s treats including kringle, a circular pastry filled with either fruit or nut. There was also an egg bake and various fruits. The chef informed us of the menu for the next day and we wished we were staying longer.
I would leave a website address for you except that while we were there, there was a for sale sign out in front of the house. I am assuming someone bought the house and did not continue the bed and breakfast because there is no longer a website or a phone number. This is really disappointing as this was a beautiful bed and breakfast with very welcoming hosts.
